Meet Megan Esmonde Howe our Adventure Woman triathlete. She is a serious competitor in one of the world’s toughest races - the Ironman. Yes, the real deal! Megan is swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112 miles and then running a FULL marathon 26.2 miles. Megan is hoping to qualify for the World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, this year. We’re here to watch her train (perhaps, pick up a few tips in the process) and cheer her on.
In 2010, Megan completed her first Ironman, tied the knot (yes, she got married!) and became an Aunt to Izabella and Davis. When asked what one thing she’d do differently in 2011 she said, “Man, that was a packed year and I don’t have many regrets, but if I had to pick one thing it would have been to focus on my nutrition more, so that on Ironman race day I didn’t dehydrate myself.”
Megan certainly had a big year, but 2011 looks equally exciting. Other plans for 2011 are to, “Place in my age group at Chesapeakman. Run a marathon time of 3:23 or better (that would be a PR time by 3minutes). Buy a house with my husband, John, and hopefully start a family! Goals beyond 2011 include, Running the New York City Marathon, and the London Marathon. “I would like to run a marathon in every major city and start doing more international stuff.”
What’s Megan’s motivating force in life? “Life itself. I know it’s cheesy, but just being able to swim, bike and run as well as I do is pretty exciting. You have to find the confidence in yourself to become motivating, because if you don’t have that, no husband, family or child can do it for you. They are there to support you, but you need to be that motivating force.”
